On October 17, Pleasantville's Scattered Wellness Studios Share One Plaza

Over the past few years, a good share of Pleasantville's new downtown storefronts have been fitness, recovery and wellness businesses. They are spread out: a second-floor room on Wheeler Avenue, part of an old pharmacy, the ground floor of an apartment building on Washington Avenue, a studio on Manville Road. On Saturday, October 17, the Pleasantville Chamber of Commerce brings many of them to the same place. Live Well Pleasantville runs from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Civic Space on Memorial Plaza, and the Saturday Farmers Market sets up nearby that same morning.

Two years ago, the patch of ground hosting the event was a traffic lane.

A Studio on Nearly Every Block

One by one, these openings looked like ordinary storefront news. Put in order, they add up to a cluster:

  1. August 2023. Sweat New York opened its Jackson Street studio for hot yoga, hot barre and hot mat Pilates, in rooms heated to between 95 and 110 degrees.
  2. March 2025. Laura Kovall opened The Fit Co. in a second-floor studio overlooking Wheeler Avenue. She started with two yoga instructors. By February 2026 she had ten.
  3. May 2025. Sweat New York added a second Pleasantville location on Wheeler Avenue for hot reformer Pilates, under ceiling-mounted infrared panels.
  4. Fall 2025. In its November 18, 2025 update, the Village listed Sonny Pilates at 343 Manville Road as recently opened.
  5. Spring 2026. By the Village's April 13, 2026 update, Pvolve at 41 Washington Avenue had finished construction and opened.
  6. Summer 2026. IV Nutrition at 62 Wheeler Avenue was "nearing completion" in June. By the September 4 bulletin it was open, next to the dentist in part of the old pharmacy space.

Some studios have been around longer. Pilates Solution on Broadway opened about three years before the February 2026 Inside Press profile, when Jennifer Lancaster took over and rebranded the former Better Day Pilates. She told the paper her client count has tripled. StretchLab lists its Pleasantville studio at 29 Washington Avenue.

The way these spaces fill matters too. The Village described Pvolve's opening as completing the commercial tenant space on the ground floor of the apartment building at 39 Washington Avenue. IV Nutrition took over half of a vacant former pharmacy. Small wellness businesses are moving into exactly the kinds of spaces that open up in a small downtown: partial units, upstairs rooms and new ground floors under apartments.

The Inside Press piece explained the draw. These are studios with a handful of reformers or one bright room, where regulars know each other. Sweat New York owner Merrill Hollander told the paper that the 15 instructors across her two locations draw clients from Chappaqua, Briarcliff, Bedford and Bronxville as well as Pleasantville. When Kovall described The Fit Co.'s classes, she named "mothers of elementary school–aged children, empty nesters and those working and managing aging parents."

That small, spread-out setup works for each studio. The downside is that there has been no single place to see them all.

The Civic Space Used to Be a Slip Lane

Until 2024, the north end of Memorial Plaza had a "slip lane" that let drivers turn onto Manville Road without stopping at the intersection. The Pleasantville Press reported that construction to close it began on September 27, 2024, as part of the Manville Road Corridor Improvement Project. Mayor Peter Scherer told the paper the change had been "discussed for something like 20 years." He said the accident rate at that spot had run three to four times the average for New York State roads, mostly minor crashes. The work was funded by a $1.5 million state grant plus $750,000 from the Village.

The road work came first. After it, the plan called for turning the north end of the plaza into a green civic space with shrubs, Adirondack chairs and planting beds. The Village's May 20, 2025 update reported the Civic Space open to the public, with some landscaping on the northern parking island still to be finished that spring.

The project was a traffic safety fix, and it also gave the village a central outdoor space that belongs to no particular business. That matters for an event like Live Well. A one-room studio can't hold a demo for passersby, and a second-floor studio has no sidewalk frontage. The Civic Space gives both of them room to set up in front of the busiest Saturday crowd in town.

Who Will Be on the Plaza

The Chamber's participant list mixes the studios above with clinical and family-oriented businesses:

  • A Renewed You
  • Apollo Performance Chiropractic & Training
  • Bloom Metabolic Insights
  • Born 2 Play Occupational Therapy
  • Boundless Nutrition
  • Brain & Body
  • Carnegie Chiropractic
  • Hudson Dental Co.
  • IV Nutrition
  • KidStrong Thornwood
  • Pace University
  • ProClinix Physical Therapy
  • Pvolve
  • Root 2 Rise
  • StretchLab
  • The Fit Co.

The Chamber describes the morning as a chance to meet local health and wellness professionals and watch live demonstrations throughout the event. Several of the businesses in the timeline above, including Sweat New York, Pilates Solution and Sonny Pilates, are not on this list. You'll still find them at their own addresses a few blocks away.

How the Morning Fits Together

October 17 has three things going on within a few hundred feet of each other:

Time What Where
8:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Live Well Pleasantville Civic Space, north end of Memorial Plaza
8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Pleasantville Farmers Market 10 Memorial Plaza, in the Metro-North lot
10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Halloween Window Painting Assigned windows, given out by October 9

The Farmers Market runs outdoors all year, and its April-through-December Saturday hours put it right alongside Live Well. The market's posted schedule shows no closure for that date, so plan on both being open. The Window Painting is open to grades 2 through 8 at $15 per window. Registration opened September 28, window assignments go out by Friday, October 9, and the rain date is Sunday, October 18.

For anyone with kids in the window-painting age range, the timing works out well. Live Well and the market are both open before painting starts at 10, so you can get your shopping and the demos done first and then head to your assigned window.

Lunch can stay close too. Pleasantville Tavern opened in June at 446 Bedford Road, in the space Lucy's held for decades before closing in November 2025. When the Journal News covered the new tavern in June, it opened with two residents, John McCarthy and Tom Miller, who still miss Michael's, a Pleasantville pub that served its last meal in 2016, and who knew right away what they wanted to do once Lucy's closed.

If you're driving in, the Village's resurfacing work on Congress, Cornell, Crawford, Temple Place, Tompkins Avenue, part of Hobby Street and some Bedford Road addresses was set to run October 1 through an anticipated October 14 finish. That should be done before the 17th, but a weather delay could push it later.

The Plaza Stays Busy the Next Two Weekends

Live Well opens a busy stretch for the Civic Space. On Saturday, October 24, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., the final show of the 2026 Pleasantville Concert Series features Heard Immunity, with rotating food trucks and drinks from SOUL Brewing Company.

The next day, Sunday, October 25, brings the Ragamuffin Parade & Festival. Lineup is at Bedford Road School at noon. The parade steps off at 12:30 p.m., heads down Bedford Road and ends at Memorial Plaza, where the festival runs until 3:00 p.m. with live music, rides, games and food trucks.

That makes three events on Memorial Plaza in nine days: a Chamber wellness fair, a Village concert and the village's main Halloween tradition. The Civic Space at its north end didn't exist two years ago.

More changes may be coming to the plaza. In its September 4 bulletin, the Village said a Café Nero was under Planning Commission review for the last vacant ground-floor tenant space at 70 Memorial Plaza. That bulletin did not give a decision or an opening date.

New downtown openings, the Civic Space and a full October calendar all shape what it's like to own a home a short walk from Memorial Plaza. If you'd like to know how they factor into your home's value, The TurnKey Team can walk you through it. Get your free home valuation, and if you're at Live Well on the 17th, come say hello.
